Losses in every aspect of late life compel the elderly to expend profound physical and emotional energy grieving, adapting to the changes that result from loss, and recovering from the stresses inherent in these processes. The treatment goal of the nurse is to enable the elderly person to gain insight into the losses and recognize and activate restitution possibilities within the limits of the situation and individual personality. Environments that include social support are beneficial to the overall health of the elderly, because they provide the opportunity to process negative events through social interaction. Newman's Theory views on health and nursing provide a theoretical framework for working with the elderly. She describes human beings as open energy systems in constant interaction with the environment, which also is an open system. The only way for nurses to understand an individual's health status is to understand the individual's patterns of relating to the environment. Human beings are continually moving toward expanded consciousness. There are times in life when an individual becomes aware that the old ways of doing things no longer work and new answers must be sought. This discovery leads to disconnectedness and a sense of disorder. According to Newman, this sense of disorder is a precursor to transformation. She calls this time a "choice point" and believes the resolution can result in progression to a higher level of consciousness. Choice points create situations that bring the client to the attention of the nurse. To be effective, the nurse must give up the compulsion to fix things and restore the client to the nurse's definition of health. Rather, the nurse must enter into the process with the client and be present during the period of disorganization and disharmony. The nurse-client relationship helps the client and the nurse tolerate uncertainty and ambiguity until the new pattern becomes clearer. Nursing actions help the client cope with the choice point and strengthen the new choices. Newman (1994) describes nursing as a caring process that reflects the whole person and transforms all of us and all that we do. Her theory encourages client and nurse to let go, embrace the experience, and allow "expansion of consciousness to unfold." This is an especially important concept in psychiatric nursing. Newman's concept of caring permits the caregiver to take time to understand the client's unfolding pattern by entering into the disorder or disconnection with the client. Nursing actions are part of the process of being with the client, and are not oriented toward a preestablished goal determined by the nurse. The students engaged their clients in caring relationships that allowed the client's symptoms to be seen as part of an unsatisfying pattern. In each situation the student's interventions were based on an understanding of the client's pattern and of the losses that led to that particular choice point for that particular client. All four of these women suffered major losses that impaired their ability to feel valued and valuable. The students' interventions, aimed at both the cognitive and emotional response to loss, acknowledged and validated these losses. The interventions were designed to build on the women's strengths and unique characteristics, providing them with an opportunity to connect with another person in an emotionally satisfying way. The relationships themselves were effective in treating the loneliness, depression, and paranoid behavior.

YOUR FRIENDS AND MY FRIENDS MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON

I may not be in the right track to discuss issues concerning other persons who are now working, living a tremendous success in life in other countries of which I can say they have change a lot from where they came from or who are they when we are still on the same boat. America is where almost everyones' dream of living a descent and upgraded life also to raise a family. Most of my colleagues are now on other places in the world working for a living earning double,triple the amount where they use to be. Pile up of credit card accounts, casino buffs and even excessive unnecessary expenses for the fact that they have all the money to have on those. Mostly don't have a house on their own to live the fact that others can go on vacation here in our place when  member of their family passed away. These people have been with me before have changed a lot. I myself were able to visit 26 STATES in the U.S. but I never had that attitude changed towards my friends. I treat them as before I never look down for the reason that I respect them as my friends. But now everything has a new dimensions. I know someone who had promised me to send me a  gadget ( no need to describe) I tell you that I can afford to have those here in my country, I could even buy 2 or 3 of those. But it never reach my hand. The issue here is not on the item but the sincerity and the truthfulness of being a friend.  I can even pay my friend's round trip ticket to America if he/she wants to. A friend of mine was asking for an MP3 gadget to his friend in the US. his friends told him that I got my only MP3 but its okay I am willing to give it to you as a gift. A stupid friend of mine also believes in him. One day they have a nice chat but it was a surprise when his friend from US were here a month ago. He even told my friend " I was looking for you I even met some of our batch so that I can give you my MP3. but I have to bring it back for the reason that I wasn't able to see u and talk to you. Now those are lies!! this fellow from the US cannot step back here in our place for the very reason that he is illegally staying in that place and he can be arrested anytime,,I hope so!..you liars group in the US. If I were to suggest you  better form an organization called " LIARS GROUP INTERNATIONAL ORG." of which all of you can become the President in your organization. So sad to hear that once you have been a respectable, professional, licensed practitioner, goes to church on Sunday's yet your horns and tails are so visible in your traits and attitudes. I may not be able to relate some peoples traits and attitudes who are working outside but I know that when you were reading this article some of your friends whom you know have done a lot of this or it might happen to some of your friends, family, and relatives. People change when money came across their lives abundantly. I hope they refrain from thinking that If ever we wanted to see them again we are after for any gifts or treats.. ladies and gentlemen, we can have what you have and sometimes even we are not earning dollars here we can still live an upper middle class category. We are not beggars here when we earned in Peso, we still can afford to pay someone to cook and do laundry for us, same with a chauffeur  to drive me to work. Don't be too confident even if you are earning 43 times I am earning. It's your behavior that counts towards your fellowmen. Anyway, even those time of Jesus Christ when some of His disciples as Judas betrayed him and Peter tells a lie disowning Him.  I know one person who promised his friend to send money for his IELTS review and examination but it never happened it was all very well said than done. The funny thing is that his friend try to bluff him by saying that he tried to send the money in his bank account but it he said the bank won't accept such transactions. My God we are now in the world of technology,, if you really want to give by all means you can,,, but not to make your friend a moron like you...sorry to say some people who have high intelligence tends to fool their own friends.

MYRA ESTRIN LEVINE (Conservation to exist and to survive)



One of the best and simplest theory formulated that even me might be able to discover such theory, the “ Conservation Model “ as discussed that we can only conserved if we have already what to conserve. If we could go straight to the very significant aspect of our life which is health. Our health depends on what we eat, there are many books, magazines, lectures, seminars, advertisements etc. which will tell us who, what, when, where to do with our health this is to conserve your willingness to survive. The environment we are in are factors to consider in the conservation of the health we have. If we have a good health, we conserve our life. The primary focus of conservation is keeping together of the wholeness of the individual. Although nursing interventions may deal with one particular conservation principle, nurses must also recognize the influence of the other conservation principle. Conservation focuses on achieving a balance of energy supply and demand within  the biological realities which humans do differs from each other. Nursing care is based on the scientific knowledge and nursing skills. Our body needs rest so to speak that we sleep at night and work in a broad daylight or the other way around case to case basis. We cannot force out body to work straight till such time that your body can no longer function normally. The system will tell that you reach the capacity and that we need to conserve the energy within us for the next number of ours that we are awake. Even the knowledge that we are having inside our brain are subject to conservation theory for which we tend to keep when a situation arises for us to use the common termed “stock knowledge”. The Levine’s theory will not only be applicable in the nursing world but to our daily existence. Even the simple savings to sustain and survive for the next pay day is also part of conservation.  A beach outing will take place five days from now and you were so excited to join such activities. You tend to save money , keep yourself not to get sick so that when that day comes , you will have all the excitement you are expecting days before. To conserve is to do something which you can again able to perform when need arises.

CALLISTA ROY (says adaptation plays a significant role)

Sister Callista Roy recently further defined adaptation refers to the process and outcome whereby thinking and feeling persons as individuals or in groups, use conscious awareness and choice to create human and environmental integration. Rather than a system simply striving to respond to environmental stimuli to maintain integrity, every human life is purposeful in a universe that is creative and persons are inseparable from their environment. She mentioned philosophical assumptions that persons have mutual relationships with God, and that we are accountable for the processes of deriving, sustaining and transforming the universe. But I do believe that before man can adapt to the environment, situation, or society he is in there is a so called difficulties, leading to adjustments and acceptance. I am talking for both the physical and behavioral aspect of a man when adaptation are about to take place. There are for some struggles to adapt themselves to a situation they are in. If an individual cannot adapt there will be consequences that would follow which can put them in danger or a situation where both the individual and the environment clash. If I could traced back in the beginning when the Lord created Adam and Eve where both of them placed in the Garden of Eden for  them to adapt but there is one adaptation they were not able to adapt when they disobeyed the Lord not to eat the fruit on the tree of life. Both of them were cast away from the garden. When we talked of adaptation we both consider the so called do’s and don’ts on a certain situation or a workplace we are in. In so much that I want to feel comfortable and successful in which I could function my task well. This is only one example of adaptation. This can also be applied in our nursing  process when the evaluation will answer the assessment. Patricia Benner’s novice to expert theory has something in connection with Sister Callista Roy’s theory. Even Florence Nightingale’s environmental theory plays a major role. Her (Sister Roy) theory will not be applicable in the Nursing world but to all in our daily dealings. I am amazed with this theory because If I have to evaluate this, it always the process of in having adaptation yet all of us are doing it yet I we were not able to give importance to such that made into a Theory. An brief example will explain Roy’s theory: You are working competently and some are spreading rumors about you and your Boss and you are affected by it , it seems you feel that every time you walked on the corridors of the school people are talking about your personality. There comes the residual part of it.

FILIPINOS GOT TALENT TOO

It was a sunny Thursday morning as I was driving to work for it would only took me 10 to 13 minutes to reach the place on a smooth traffic condition. All commuters were in a rush to get to their destination as it is almost eight then. Entering the area I saw an standard size tarpaulin says the “Pilipinas Got Talent” with a logo star on it. How amazing I said, people from all ages are walking towards the building of my direction , some just came out from taxi cabs too bringing costumes on their arms, huge bags, guitar cases, in uniform style of costumes with full blast make up all over their looks. Aha! It is an audition for any talented individual to become a star huh?! Am I on the right place at the right time? Yeah! I am it’s because it is almost my moment to start working as I consider it a part of my talent to earn for a living. Interviews over the cameras all  over the place and one six year old contestant dress up in a Michael Jackson attire started showing his tantrums with his mom but for sure it is not his talent I supposed. There were girls in groups pose for pictorials in same flag style costumes. I saw a lot of excitements and fears of some faces too. Well, it is a competition where everyone are expected to give their best shot for a very slight moment allotted for them plus to get a nod from the judges. There were celebrities mentioned who will then decide for the winning entry. This is one hell of a turning point to some contestants as they vie for fame and glory. Well I guess the economic situation in the country pushes these contestants or their families to go and participate to lift their income status if I may assess. I don’t have against these kind on life saving measures of using your talent to survive but if we can do studies on these aspect, we may consider the financial needs and the early stage to be famous in the society. This is a balance between your will and your tell, in which are not in the context of your chances to become rich and famous. Nobody can tell what you will be but it is your destiny that might be knocking at your door to be open as you wish. To all of you guys! I know you have your own goal and your families are looking up on you. Wish you all the luck and break a leg!

PHILIPPINES' BEST POUND FOR POUND

The EAST versus the WEST

This coming May 2011 it might be another milestone for the world's best pound for pound. As I comment I would rather say that if you are a world class professional boxer who has a clean record of zero lost,several wins by way of knockout and no draw. Well, you try to fight with Manny for you to have a one (1) loss on your record or even end up your career. It is a self challenge not to get defeated by yourself for fighting against Manny is a probable situation you might win but definitely of you can't then you will surely loss a title. For the next opponent, most of them are competing in someways. It might be that 'if Manny will not be able to knock me down in 3 to 4 rounds then I consider myself a winner even in the end I lost by a margin of points or unanimous decision. May 2011 is another big day for the Filipinos who will be watching and supporting Pacman all the way!. Indeed a tremendous fight will be expected as  lot of challengers will be lining up to have the chance to win over the Pacman, Good luck to all and as the late and famous boxing commentator says "keep punching!"...

A BULLET IS NOTHING FOR MY FAMILY

The conflicts and  struggle all over the world greatly affects the economic aspect of an individual. A great philosopher which I strongly agree that I forgot his name said " When there is struggle to change , there is bloodshed". Indeed it happends now in Libya under the leadership of President Khadaffy on one of the world's longest term holding the highest position of the land. And yet we accept the fact that all over the world there are thousands of Filipinos who refused to leave their country's working place in the middle of battle between the government and some rebels. Some Filipinos arrived  on board the  scheduled plane funded by the government but other would prefer to stay in the area, hoping all's well and ends well. An OFW appeared on international television and said: I don't wan't to go back to the Philippines for a question would everbody loves to ask " What kind of work or how much I will be earning for I got 4 stomach waiting for me. I would rather die of a bullet in the middle east for the bright future of my family". Nothing has left for him on a HOPE to survive as a worker here compare to a much dangerous situations in other places. The will, the determination and the braveness of these invdividuals will surely indicates a very poor government performance. What is like to be in a situation where everbody has to run and try to save himself everyday and every moment.
